TV WatchingWant your kids to watch less TV? Perhaps the best thing you can do is watch less yourself. The same applies for time spent looking at a computer screen. This is the result of a British study.

Nearly 1,100 children five to six years old and their parents were surveyed on how much time they spend looking at a screen-television or computer. The survey found that each weekday 12% of boys, 8% of girls, and 30% of mothers and fathers spend more than two hours watching TV. On weekends the percentages increased to 45% of boys, 43% of girls, 53% of mothers, and 57% of fathers.

If parents watched over two hours per day, their children were around 3.5 times more to watch more than two hours per day than their peers with parents who watched less TV.

This study demonstrates the “do as I say, not as I do” doesn’t work. If you want your kids to spend less time staring at a screen you need to do the same.
